I have performed in bathing houses and in cages, on squares and yes, on stages, too. I sing in Russian, Tuvan, Finnish, Romani and more, but my own songs tend to be in English, though lately I have also written some songs in Russian.
Some of the songs I sing have been shaped just by me and some of them have been honed to perfection by an ocean of singers. Throat singing has become an integral part of my repertoire, ever since I visited Tuva in 2001. (More about that trip here.)
In the last few years I have been performing a lot with Ulf Eklund and Jan Gezelius as a trio in the Girilal Baars Trio. On some level I see myself primarily as a singer, so it is a pleasure and a privelege to be singing with the boys in
Äijä – our a capella folk music quartet.

I have been actively working with electro acoustic music and assorted noise-making since I got a theremin way back at the end of the last century while I was still playing with Kapoor. Hanging out at EMS in Stockholm gradually led to a fascination with all sorts of gadgetry and techniques.
Originally, I made music with loose groups of improvisors, sometimes using the name The Remin' Circus. I also started to make music for Mikko Kallinen's futuristic choreographies.
In the last few years I have also composed pieces inhabiting the musical territory known as electro-acoustic or acousmatic, some of which are listed here.
In the last couple of years I have been performing a solo piece for theremin, voice and electronics based around traditional songs, Litany in Zero Kelvin.
Currently I am working a lot with Andrey Smirnov's t-sensors, which complement my experience with good old analogue theremins.
